AMERICAN LEGION SOFTBALL: Burke County No. 1 seed for Area I tourney that begins on Monday night

The 2019 American Legion Fast-pitch Area I Senior softball tournament begins Monday, and the winner will advance to the championship tournament in Shelby.

Burke County Post 21 is the top-seeded for the Senior tournament and Caldwell County Post 392 is the No. 2 seed.

There are two opening round games on Monday – No. 9 North Gaston Post 266 at No. 8 Shelby Post 82 at 7 p.m. at Cleveland Community College and No. 10 McDowell Post 56 at No. 7 Lincoln Post 30 at 7 p.m. at North Lincoln High.

There are four quarterfinal games on Tuesday at four different sites, the semifinals are Wednesday at the highest remaining seeds and the championship game is Thursday at the highest remaining seed.

The championship tournament in Shelby is scheduled Aug. 12-14.

N. Gaston-Shelby winner at No. 1 Burke County Post 21 at Catawba Meadows, 7 p.m.

No. 5 Hickory Post 48 at No. 4 Wilkes Post 31 at W. Wilkes High, 7 p.m.

McDowell-Lincoln winner at No. 2 Caldwell County Post 392 at Hibriten High, 7 p.m.

No. 6 South Gaston Post 144 at No. 3 Rutherford Post 423 at Chase High, 7 p.m.

WEDNESDAY’S GAMES

Burke County-TBA winner vs. Hickory-Wilkes winner, semifinal, at highest seed, 7 p.m.

Caldwell County-TBA winner vs. S. Gaston-Rutherford County winner, semifinal, at highest seed, 7 p.m.

THURSDAY’S GAME

Semifinal winners, championship, at highest seed 7 p.m.
